Key Contextual Factors
- The literature review included results from studies conducted in European countries and was not limited to specific settings. Specific contextual factors should thus not affect the recommendations’ potential for implementation in particular member states.
Key Components/Steps
Ten recommendations were derived described in more detail here. Briefly, the ten recommendations refer to the following:
- Identification of the specific purpose of PROM collection (e. g. symptom monitoring or benchmarking, or both)
- Definition of the patient population as well as the audience
- Identification of the stakeholders that need to be involved
- Modes of data collection, presentation, selection of datasets, and how to use PROMs to improve practice
- Monitoring and sustainability
Main Impacts / Added Value
- The recommendations provide guidance to everyone who acknowledges the need to collect PROMs in cancer patients systematically. The recommendations are meant to enable individual providers to better care for their patients and to allow patients to discuss their health and treatment with providers. The systematic use of these recommendations, at all levels (setting, regional or national), will enable the evaluation of the (quality of the?) care provided.
